It is time to meet again and quaff and judge a few beers. The theme for this meeting is Summer. Any beer style or variety is allowed, but it should be a favorite of your during summertime. Please bring 2-3 bottles of your favorite brew.We will fire up a grill or two on the third floor and enjoy the weather, hopefully. If not we can always grill under an umbrella and bring it inside.See you then!See More

March Madness for Beer

If you haven't been following it, Brewing News is doing a 64 bracket shoot-off for the best IPA for 2009. Two on the 64 were tasted at the BerrHackers' 5:01 IPA tasting a few weeks ago. This all goes to show, there are a lot of beers out there, and a lot more tasting that needs to be done (also, a good IPA is easier to find than a ESB!).

Cheers

The sweetness takes a backseat to the roasted malt flavor. It's pure winter brew. I let it stand out of the fridge for about 20min. before settling into it. Carbonation was very good for a Imp… Continue

May the Schwartz Beir With You (Kulmbacher - Mönchshof Schwarzbier clone)

The latest batch of beer at the CaBrewery was to honor Mrs. Brewmeister and her affection for Kulmbacher Mönchshof Schwarzbier. This brings back memories of sitting in a middle-eastern restarant, watching German MTV, eating falafel, and smelling the hookahs burning.

The beer is a dark as night brew, with lower alcohol, foamy beige head, and has a very low roasted taste. It is a smooth lager, with noble hops in the mid taste, and an incredible finish. I agree with the Mrs., it… Continue

Homebrew Choices

I am brewing up another beer this coming weekend.  Are there any suggestions for a style or clone ideas?  I am leaning toward a Schwartz Beer, similar to my favorite Mönchshof… Continue
